Parco del Mare in Rimini: Physical Activity and Exercise for Health and Well-being

28 May 2026
A new scientific study dedicated to the Parco del Mare (Waterfront) of Rimini is now underway. Wellness Foundation and the Department of Life Quality Studies at the University of Bologna, in collaboration with Uni.Rimini and under the patronage of the Municipality of Rimini and the Fondazione Piano Strategico, are launching a study to explore the relationship between the use of this urban space and the health, wellbeing and quality of life of residents and tourists.

The project is part of the 2025-2028 Wellness Valley protocol between Wellness Foundation, the Emilia-Romagna Region the Alma Mater Studiorum University of Bologna to promote healthy lifestyles within the local community.

The Parco del Mare is today one of Italy’s most significant urban regeneration projects: 16 km of seafront transformed into a green, sustainable infrastructure with spaces dedicated to active mobility, sport and outdoor training. An ideal setting in which to study whether and how urban environments that support movement and physical exercise can translate into more active lifestyles and improved perceived quality of life, in line with the World Health Organization’s recommendations on the importance of outdoor sports infrastructures as a tool for health promotion and well-being.

The survey will be carried out through an online questionnaire, open to both residents and tourists, and will remain active over the coming months until the end of September 2026. Particularly, the study aims to capture habits and patterns of use of the Parco del Mare’s spaces and facilities, assess their impact on perceived well-being and lifestyles, and gather insights to inform future local health promotion and prevention policies.

The findings will be presented at the upcoming Annual Meeting of the Wellness Valley, scheduled for November 2026.
