Sedentary lifestyle and excess body weight are major risk factors for the onset and progression of chronic diseases such as diabetes. Today in Romagna, 4 out of 10 adults are overweight and insufficiently physically active, and this condition tends to worsen with increasing age.

In this context, during the months of April and May, the Wellness Foundation, in collaboration with AUSL Romagna, Diabete Romagna, and Technogym, and under the patronage of the Order of Pharmacists of the Province of Rimini, promotes DIA-BEAT: an awareness campaign aimed at encouraging healthy lifestyles and active diabetes prevention.

What is diabetes?

Diabetes is a chronic disease characterized by elevated blood glucose levels (hyperglycemia) due to an altered amount or function of insulin. Insulin is a hormone produced by the pancreas that allows glucose to enter cells and be used as an energy source. When this mechanism is impaired, glucose builds up in the bloodstream.

Regular physical activity, a balanced diet, and routine check-ups are essential both to reduce the risk of developing the disease and to improve the quality of life of those already affected.

Who is the campaign for?

The campaign is aimed at all adult citizens, without any restrictions based on residence or place of domicile.

In particular:

  • To the general adult population, meaning anyone who wants to take care of their health, even without symptoms or a diagnosis, through a simple and free screening

  • To people already diagnosed with diabetes who wish to improve the management of their condition through a more active lifestyle

How does the campaign work?

The campaign includes two main activities: free blood glucose and blood pressure measurements at participating pharmacies, and a functional assessment using Technogym Checkup at selected gyms and fitness centers across the area.
Two different pathways are offered, designed to meet different participants’ needs
